Michael Hayden. Co-Founder and Chairman


Michael Hayden is a Co-Founder and Chairman of Ventura Networks. Prior to Ventura Networks, he co-founded and was the CEO of North Fork Networks, a storage software company with products which enabled customers to create flexible, highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and easy-to-manage storage area networks operating over Ethernet. North Fork Networks was sold to Lefthand Networks, a storage hardware company based in Boulder, Colorado. At Lefthand, Mr. Hayden focused on sales and business development. Previously, he served as the vice president of business development at Personic Software and was responsible for developing and executing on the company's global alliance and partnership strategy, mergers and acquisition strategy and all other short- and long-term strategic business initiatives. Mr. Hayden also oversaw the company's capital raising efforts. Prior to Personic, Mr. Hayden was an investment banker with Robertson Stephens where he assisted public and private companies in locating and negotiating strategic and venture financing. Previously, Mr. Hayden was a corporate attorney with the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he represented Internet and other high technology growth companies in a variety of business, technology and securities matters. Mr. Hayden received a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a J.D. from Boalt Hall Law School. Prior to entering law school, he worked in the auditing and tax departments at Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Hayden is both a C.P.A. (inactive) and a member of the California State Bar.

Dr. Hayden is a Co-Founder and President and Chief Technical Officer of Ventura Networks. Prior to Ventura Networks, he co-founded and was the President and CTO of North Fork Networks, a storage software company with products which enabled customers to create flexible, highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and easy-to-manage storage area networks operating over Ethernet. North Fork Networks was sold to Lefthand Networks, a storage hardware company based in Boulder, Colorado. At Lefthand, Dr. Hayden was the Chief Software Architect and was responsible for all software-related aspects of Lefthand's products. Prior to founding North Fork Networks, he was a research scientist at the Compaq Systems Research Center in Palo Alto. There he worked on a broad range of fault-tolerant systems projects. This work included serving as a principal in the Compaq/Tandem ServerNet II fabric management product group, as well as work on clustered storage research projects. Dr. Hayden has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University and a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. As part of his Ph.D. research at Cornell, he was the primary author of the Ensemble fault-tolerant communication toolkit. This software is used in many commercial high availability products and research projects; a derivative of the software forms the core of North Fork Network's clustering architecture and Ventura's Precision Suite of Products. Dr. Hayden has published numerous articles in the distributed systems literature and has a patent on optimizing communication protocol performance.
